Strengthening SMU–MIT Research Collaboration: Dr Hui Ying PAK Appointed Visiting Scholar at MIT

The SMU Urban Institute congratulates Dr Hui Ying Pak, Research Fellow, on her appointment as a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Dr Pak has commenced a six-month appointment at MIT under the supervision of Professor Siqi Zheng, Visiting Professor at the SMU Urban Institute, Director of the MIT Sustainable Urbanization Lab, and faculty member at the MIT Center for Real Estate. Her research focuses on urban climate adaptation, heat resilience and nature-based solutions, advancing evidence-based approaches to healthier and more resilient cities.

Advancing Research on Sustainable Urbanisation

During her appointment, Dr Pak will continue her research on sustainable urbanisation and climate resilience in Asian cities while strengthening the long-standing collaboration between Singapore Management University and MIT. She will also continue the joint research programme led by Professor Winston Chow and Professor Siqi Zheng, further advancing interdisciplinary research on urban sustainability and climate adaptation.

Strengthening International Collaboration

Dr Pak's appointment reflects the SMU Urban Institute's commitment to fostering international research partnerships and promoting knowledge exchange on critical urban challenges. The collaboration is expected to generate new research opportunities and deepen cooperation between SMU and MIT in areas of shared strategic importance.
