Congratulations to our Urban Fellows and Leads on their latest publications!

Director and Pillar Lead (Urban Governance), Prof Orlando Woods (SMU College of Integrative Studies), together with the SMU Urban Institute's 2024–2025 Visiting Fellow, Prof Shauna Brail (University of Toronto), guest edited a special issue of Applied Geography, "Urban Innovation in the Smart City: Technologies, Transformations and New Regimes of Governance." The special issue brings together leading international scholarship on digital transformation, governance, sustainability, and emerging urban technologies.

Urban Fellow (Urban Governance) Ishani Mukherjee (SMU School of Social Sciences), together with Panchali Guha, published "Calibrations and Compliance: The Role of Motivations in Policy Instrument Design." Drawing on the case of dengue control in Singapore, the study examines how policy instruments can be more effectively designed to encourage public compliance by accounting for diverse behavioural motivations. 

These publications reflect the SMU Urban Institute's commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and fostering international collaborations that address pressing urban challenges.
