Mumbai Dreams: Beyond Chaos to Common Ground through Experience Improvement Districts (XID)

India’s cities are growing and evolving rapidly—and invariably struggling under the pressure. Mumbai for example is the 17th wealthiest city in the world, but ranks 118th for Quality of Life—for various reasons.

The effort to make India’s cities, or any city globally, both liveable and sustainable simultaneously, requires urgency, but with new ways of thinking systemically and acting collaboratively. The Donut Economics Model and Experience Improvement Districts (XID) are two frameworks that can help Mumbai, and other cities, to fulfil their potential—socially, economically and environmentally.

These frameworks emphasise strategies that raise quality of life and improve health and well-being while minimising pollution and resources used, and maximising circularity while being fiscally responsible. The seminar will focus on the practical aspects of deploying these in fast-evolving and demanding contexts.
